Embryo incubation and the selection of embryos is a critical step in IVF treatments. Esco for years have supported customers worldwide with a highly accurate, reliable and completely certified incubator with MIRI® Multiroom Incubator, actually with more than 1,500 units installed worldwide.

Based on this proven technology and following the concept of individual chamber incubation MIRI® Time-Lapse Incubator provide the same accuracy in securing a stable and safe embryo culture environment, but adding the multiple features of time-lapse imaging.

Esco therefore believes that time-lapse systems play a vital role and should be considered a valuable tool to obtain the best clinical IVF outcome. By combining the effects of non-invasive embryo culture with the continuous surveillance of embryo development and it’s sophisticated and highly informative tools which allow the embryologists to make a decision to select the most viable embryo for transfer and cryopreservation.

Scientific benefits from doing Time-Lapse?

Advantages like small individual chambers, an outstanding gas mixer, HEPA/VOC filtration and optional continuous pH monitoring seem to be obvious reasons for choosing a MIRI® TL but where does science say in regards to the use of time-lapse?

A recent meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing the use of time-lapse system with  traditional embryo incubation show a significant contribution to increase the ongoing clinical pregnancy and live birth rates, and reduce the early pregnancy loss.

The extensive review of the meta-analysis supports the benefits of the time-lapse system in the clinical IVF treatments;

  • Application of time-lapse system significantly increases ongoing pregnancy rate
  • Application of time-lapse system significantly decreases early pregnancy loss
  • Application of time-lapse system significantly increases live birth rate

A comprehensive analysis showed the application of time-lapse system significantly improved the ongoing pregnancy and live birth rates (51% and 44.2%, respectively), compared with traditional incubation and evaluation (39.9% and 31.3%, respectively). In addition, meta-analysis on live birth rates have been recently updated to strengthen the positive effect of time-lapse system on live birth, adding up to 1945 cases (OR: 1.56; CI = 1.30-1.88; P < 0.001).

Early pregnancy loss rate was also significantly reduced with the application of time-lapse system to 15.3%.

This robust meta-analysis findings show the growing evidence for its benefits of using time-lapse system in clinical IVF. The benefits of changing from traditional embryo assessment to continuous observation using time-lapse system are also certainly supported by the findings. In conclusion, the effects of using time-lapse system significantly contribute the reduction in early pregnancy loss, higher ongoing pregnancy and live birth rates with the potential to shorten the time to pregnancy.

If you consider time-lapse as being standard in your clinic you absolutely have a choice to make…

Esco medical has initiated its approach to achieve effective IVF treatment with a world-class MIRI® Time-Lapse system, which offers the embryologists to continuously monitor, annotate and classify by tracking the timing of events and to select the most viable embryo for transfer and if requested even with continuous pH monitoring with SAFE Sens technology.
